From a young age, Raj was drawn to mechanical systems—tinkering with toy cars and modifying motors sparked a curiosity that grew into a lifelong passion for engineering. That passion eventually led him to a career in the Ready-Mixed Concrete (RMC) industry, where he gained hands-on experience setting up batching plants and troubleshooting conveyor systems as a Maintenance Superintendent in Malaysia.
In 2018, Raj joined Jurong Port as a Senior Technical Executive under the Reliability Engineering team. He became a core member of the RMC Ecosystem project, contributing from the early design phase through to its completion and beyond. His work included shaping the initial layout, selecting equipment, drafting specifications, and managing construction tenders—all while coordinating with various teams like IT, Ops, cybersecurity, and finance. Despite major logistical and global supply chain challenges during COVID-19, Raj and the team ensured the project stayed on track.
One of his proudest moments was witnessing the conveyor system running smoothly at 800 tonnes per hour with zero spillage—a milestone that marked the successful launch of Singapore’s first RMC Ecosystem.
Beyond his technical work, Raj finds fulfillment in mentoring younger engineers and values the supportive, innovation-driven culture cultivated by his supervisor, Nick Wong. Looking ahead, Raj is gearing up for a training programme in Australia focused on bulk handling systems, eager to bring back fresh insights to enhance future projects at Jurong Port.
