Just like a Pokémon trainer aiming to “catch them all,” Mohammad Fauzi Bin Ismail has been steadily ‘collecting’ licenses for different types of cranes—from Rubber Tyre Gantry (RTG) to crawler and quay cranes. Each license represents a challenge overcome and a new skill mastered.
Fauzi’s fascination with cranes began during his National Service in the Police Coast Guard. While patrolling areas near Pasir Panjang and Keppel, he often observed cranes in action and became curious about what it would take to operate them. His father, who worked in the port industry, further fueled his interest by sharing his own experiences. Eventually, Fauzi found himself working alongside his father, gaining invaluable hands-on experience. Starting as an RTG crane operator, he progressed to managing the more complex quay cranes.
In 2018, a friend working at Jurong Port encouraged him to explore opportunities there. Fauzi joined as an Equipment Specialist and rotated through various roles, including quay crane operations, RTG handling, and Wharf Traffic Assistance (WTA). These diverse experiences helped him build a robust and versatile skillset.
When the Ready-Mixed Concrete (RMC) Ecosystem became operational, Fauzi expressed his interest and joined the team in December 2023 as an Equipment Operations Specialist. Recognising his leadership potential, his supervisors have been preparing him for a Duty Officer role—one that requires strong planning, coordination, and team management skills. He is also continuing to pursue further crane licenses to broaden his expertise.
Looking back, Fauzi’s journey has been marked by continuous growth, learning, and adaptability. He has embraced every challenge that has come his way and remains committed to reaching new milestones in his career at Jurong Port.
