New Container Quay Cranes in Operation
Five new Doosan-designed container quay
cranes of 22-row outreach are already in
operations at the Container Terminal, since
May 2007. Together with 5 existing superpost
panamax cranes of 18-row outreach,
they are located at the main berths of the
Terminal which have a maximum draft
alongside of 16.7 metres.
At the side berths with a maximum draft alongside of 14-metres, the 4 panamax cranes
have been replaced by 4 post-panamax cranes.
In total, the Terminal has 14 quay cranes and an extended berth length of 1,410 metres;
thereby increasing its annual handling capacity to 1.8 million teus per annum.
The Terminal has also been hitting new records in terms of vessel and crane productivity.
In April 2007, the Port achieved a vessel rate of 168 moves per hour and crane rate of
46 moves per hour on UASC’s vessel MV/Al Mutanabbi/C440E. In addition, the Terminal
is carrying out twin-lift operations with shipping line customers to further enhance
efficiency.
In terms of new shipping service, Hub Line launched its new Papua New Guinea Service
with the arrival of M/V Hibiscus on 8 May 2007 and M/V Carnation on 26 July 2007 at
the Terminal.
