Update on Infrastructure Projects
Jurong Port’s Conventional Cargo
Terminal is in the midst of infrastructural
developments to increase handling
capacity and improve operational efficiency
in the face of rising demand for its facilities.
Projects, which are being carried out in
phases, started many months ago.
Several projects in Phase 1 have been
completed or are near completion. These include :
- Two new lean-to-warehouses at transit warehouses J4 & J5, with an additional
area of about 6,000 sqm (completed);
- Two new back-up warehouses at berth J12 with a total area of about 8,000
sqm of transit warehousing space (by December 2007);
- Extension of berths by 185 metres (by August 2007)
- Upgrading of 873 metres of berths (by October 2007)
- Building two new mechanical ramps (by second-half of 2007)
Phase 2 developments have also started and the projects are targeted for completion in
stages from the second quarter of 2008 onwards. Currently in progress are piling works
for the planned Lighter Terminal at Penjuru and site preparatory works for a Small
Craft Terminal for 665-metres of new berths at the J1 Basin. In addition, berths J3 and
J4 will be upgraded and extended by another 280-metres to handle vessels of up to
70,000 dwt by the second half of 2008. Other upcoming projects will include a new
main gate, an upgraded IT system, 14,000 sqm of warehouse space and about
30,000 sqm of open storage space.
Looking beyond these developments, further projects are in the pipeline to continue with
its infrastructure upgrading, re-development or construction.
