Safety & Security

Security

Jurong Port security was certified a compliant port under the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code, administered by the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) in 2004.

Jurong Port places high priority on port security, and constantly ensures that security measures are in line with the international maritime security requirements to detect and deter international terrorism that threatens operations.

This will give our customers, port users and staff added assurance and peace of mind when working in the port.

Safety

Jurong Port has been at the forefront in the push for higher safety standards since the enactment of the Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) Act by the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) in 2006. Our dedication to promoting a safety culture is encapsulated in our Safety Vision.

Our Safety Vision

"To be recognized and admired as a leading professional organization with a robust culture,
where every individual takes a personal responsibility for one another’s health, safety and environment as the cornerstone of our safety commitment."

Today, Jurong Port is a BizSafe pioneering company and a BizSafe Partner registered with the Singapore Ministry of Manpower. We are also a key member in the Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) committee, logistics and transportation, regularly sharing safety information and best practices with industry partners.

The Port’s drive towards a safety culture involves the participation of staff at all levels with the establishment of a WSH steering committee comprising senior management as well as safety committees at divisional and department levels of operations. In addition, toolbox meetings are regularly conducted with contractors and stevedores working in the port premises.

Just as important, the Port initiates and organizes safety campaigns and training programs throughout the year. These include the safety leadership and mentoring training program for safety leaders, safety orientation courses as part of the entry pass application procedures, and the safety campaigns to increase safety awareness among port users in the container, general and bulk cargo terminals.

The Port also conducts regular emergency exercises and dialogue sessions with contractors and stevedores. It disseminates safety bulletins to all port users through JP-Online, our company intranet and our corporate website on a regular basis. Other initiatives include safety management system, permit-to-work system, stevedoring & mobile crane licensing scheme, forklift policy/registration (which is also featured on the WSHAC website); and a competency training matrix to identify job-specific safety-related skills training.

Jurong Port was awarded the Lloyd’s List “Achievement in Safety” Award in 2009, in recognition of its safety culture, safety systems and safety programs.
